Chairmans Thoughts
I am writing this having recently heard very sad news of the death of Margaret Thatcher which obviously has an impact on many people in this town. From a business perspective a number of her policies involved entrepreneurialism and the setting up of one’s own business. This is still very evident in Grantham and I personally have had the pleasure in judging the young entrepreneur category for the Grantham Journal business awards which I must say was an absolute pleasure to see the passion, drive and enthusiasm shown by our local youngsters.
At the Grantham Business Club we are excited about our forthcoming open meeting on Tuesday, 16 April at Belton Woods Hotel. This meeting is a joint meeting held with our colleagues at Total Networking and it proves to be a very busy and interesting meeting so I would encourage all members to attend whether you had been recently or otherwise.
Additionally, as with any month all non members or potential new members that are interested in coming along to find out how the business club has changed are welcome, it would be great to see you.

Chairmans London Marathon
In just under month’s time I will be hitting the streets of London along with around 35,000 people to tackle the 26 miles 385 yards course and this year I am running the marathon to support two fantastic charities. I am supporting The National Blind Childrens Society as well as Rainbows Hospice for children and young .
I would be very grateful if you could donate whatever you can to help me reach my fundraising targets for these two charities and to help me through those gruelling miles!
Please visit my fundraising page at Virgin Money Giving and donate online, if you prefer please send a cheque, made payable to Trust Group Fundraising to me at Trust House, 10 Guildhall Street, Grantham. NG31 6NJ

ROYAL AIR FORCE WITTERING FAMILIES’ DAY
RAF Wittering will be holding its annual ‘Families Day’ on Saturday 13th July 2013. The Event allows personnel based here to show-case their work, and for their families to enjoy a relaxed and enjoyable day. As you might expect, a significant burden is shouldered by the families of serving personnel, driven largely by the current high level of operational commitment; with personnel away from their families for extended periods of time. Along with an opportunity to thank those hard-pressed people, be they parents, partners or children, the Station uses this event to reinforce and enhance our very important links with the local community. As with previous years we are hoping to provide a real spectacle on the day with flying and static displays, show-case stands and interactive activities for young and old.

With the austerity measures still being implemented to target the large deficit the budget was always going to be tough. There was however some good news for the business community.

Announcement
The Business Club Chairman Stuart Pigram was invited to appear on BBC Radio Lincolnshire this morning in a discussion about ‘Freeze Business rates’ protest which happened today, Friday 15th March at 1300hrs. Unfortunately the show broadcast incorrectly that as a club we are opposed to the protest and support the rate rise. We want to make it clear to our members that this is not the case, as a club we DO NOT support the rate rise and that the chairman was mis-represented by BBC Radio Lincolnshire on this matter.
